A 47 year old sump pump is retired.

April 5, 2022

Typically, a typical sump pump, when properly installed in a suitable application, can be expected to have a lifespan of between 7 and 10 years, depending on the application. However, from time to time, you may encounter an exception to the norm.

When John Bachand and his crew at JP Bachand Contracting in Newington, CT were replacing an old pump for one of their customers, they discovered one of Zoeller's older models that is no longer even manufactured! This antique pump is Zoeller's Model 54, which was manufactured until the early 1980s.

The homeowner informed John’s team that he had not changed the pump since moving into the home in 1976. The man also believed that it was the original pump installed in the home 10 years earlier in 1966. Knowing that this pump could very well be over 50 years old, John contacted Zoeller to try to verify the date of manufacture. When the photos were reviewed by Zoeller’s team, they determined that the pump was only 3 years shy of 50 – 47, in fact, and the motor was still running! After this small but sturdy sump pump was retired, its place was taken by a Zoeller Pump Company Model 53.®, which is, John informed the team, “the only pump we have used in 35 years in business.”
